About [20] Full Moon
I first made Full Moon in 1973. The one and only other time that I recorded this song (that I recall) was in 1977, and it is included on my collection “Summer of ’77 Keepables.” At that time, I recorded it on my Docorder reel-to-reel tape recorder, and I was experimenting with two of that machine’s features, echo and a kind of overdub feature that Docorder called “Sound-On-Sound.”
Understandably, that 1977 recording was very amateurish, yet I was pleased with the sounds I achieved with that recording, as well as the pair of backing vocals. So, as I song, I was confident that Full Moon, as with the other songs on Summer of ’77 Keepables, was a good candidate for re-recording. Now, with this new recording, I replicated the echo on the song’s intro. And, this time, for the backing vocals, I used 4-part harmony.
Brand new for this recording is a bass part, which I’m very happy with.
The final guitar strike, at the very end of the song, is the way I have always played this song, but, for some reason, I didn’t play it during the Summer of ’77 Keepables version, and so I have a little bit of reason to wonder if I had made an earlier recording which had that final strike. With this new recording, I’m amazed at how much that last guitar strike sounds like an electric guitar. I never cease to be surprised by the sounds I’m able to get from my little Yamaha FG-75. It’s really a very special little guitar.
I hope you like this song.
